The International Water Association (IWA) is a scientific body bringing together more than 130 countries.

The president has presented a bill on Iran’s membership of the IWA to parliament. It is designed to serve the country’s national interests and help advance the cause of regional and international convergence in line with the strategic goals of the country’s foreign policy.
The bill originally proposed by the Legal Department of the Presidential Office was voted for by the Cabinet before being presented to the legislature for final approval.
The preamble to the bill reads: “This bill is presented to parliament for approval in order to promote Iran’s active presence in international organizations, use such presence to serve the country’s national interests and help advance the cause of regional and international convergence in line with the strategic goals of the country’s foreign policy, and tap into the latest scientific and technological achievements.”
The bill allows the government to join the International Water Association and pay membership fees. It also authorizes the executive to appoint a local authority to oversee Iran’s membership.
More than 130 countries from around the world are members of the IWA.
