According to the Millennium Development Goals Report, which was published during a UN Economic and Cultural Council conference in Geneva, good progress has been made in achieving the goal to halve the number of people who don’t have access to healthy drinking water in developing countries. The number of such people dropped from 30 % in 1990 to 20 % in 2004 and it showed a 15 % drop within a decade.
According to the report, since 1990, the number of people infected with tuberculosis and AIDS has increased rather than decrease. Fortunately, an increase in international awareness on these diseases and malaria has resulted in the flow of billions of dollars for combating these diseases.
The report says that unfortunately half of the developing countries’ population do not have access to healthy sewage disposal systems.
