Initial studies and feasibility studies, economic evaluations, design and the drawing up of tender documents were carried out for the execution of the project.
Initial studies consisted of the drawing up of plans and designs for the waste engineering machinery and the biogas collection and transfer systems, the identification of technology for the production of electricity and energy with the use of biogas produced at landfills.
During the feasibility studies, research was carried out on the amount of biogas which would be able to be produced from urban waste in Mashhad, the creation of a prototype of a gas production system at the Mashhad Landfill, prediction of the future gas production process. Moreover, this stage also consisted of an estimation of the Mashhad Landfill’s electricity production capacity, technical evaluation of the electricity-production machinery at the Mashhad Landfill and the introduction of the best commercial motor generators which can be used for landfills.
During the economic studies stage, based on the results of the feasibility studies economic evaluation were carried out on the cost of using all of the gas produced at the biogas collection networks, and supplying the produced electricity to the national grid.
During the design stage, designs were drawn up of the gas transfer lines to the power plant, the pressure intensification station, the central torch for burning excess gas, the equipment needed for the gas refinery process, the buildings housing the generator motors and electricity protection system, and the power plant’s connection to the national grid.
