Hormozgan 1” 500-megatwatt gas-run power plant
 
To develop the electricity generation capacity of the nation and meet an ever-increasing demand in the south, the Iranian Electricity Development Organization decided to build the “Hormozgan 1” power plant which has 4 gas-run units, each with a capacity of 165 megawatts (500 megawatts in total).
 
 
 
Among the most important objectives of the projects are:
- Meeting part of the need on the national grid and helping with development of sustainability and improvement of voltage
- Boosting the country’s electricity generation capacity and setting the stage for more employment in the region
- Meeting a growing need to electricity in the region arising from industrial growth, agricultural development and household consumption
- Making maximum use of local engineering potential and promoting technical know-how applicable to construction of power plants
- Boosting self-reliance with a focus on managerial, technical-engineering and executive potential in the country, etc.

Measures taken so far
- The consultant of the Iranian Electricity Development Organization has conducted feasibility studies.
- The investor has purchased a piece of land which has been levelled and fenced; the workshop is being equipped.
- The Environmental Evaluation Office has confirmed the report presented by the investor.
- Studies have been conducted as to how the plant should be connected to the grid. The Iranian Electricity Development Organization and TAVANIR have approved the studies.
- The investor is taking measures to secure the flow of water and electricity to the plant during the course of construction.
- The Iranian Electricity Development Organization is holding talks with the National Iranian Gas Company for the supply of gas.
- Bank Mellat has been chosen as the financier and talks are underway to tap into the Foreign Exchange Reserve Fund in keeping with a Cabinet decision in Hormozgan.
